6 Ways to Make This Summer Special

Summer goes by faster than we think.

So this year, don't wait for the "perfect moment" to make it special — create it. Here are six simple, screen-free ways to fill the holidays with art, curiosity, and a little bit of English — moments your child (and you) will want to look back on when autumn comes. 🎨

1. Paint outdoors in the park

Pack a few brushes and a small watercolour set, and head to the nearest park. There are no rules and no rush — just a slow afternoon of painting whatever catches your child's eye. Painting outdoors sharpens observation (what colour is that leaf, really?) and turns an ordinary day into a tiny adventure. As you go, name the colours and the things you see in English — learning happens naturally when little hands are busy.

2. Photograph the summer sky

Hand your child a phone or camera and let them chase sunsets, clouds, and that golden evening light. The sky changes every single day — the best gallery is right above us. Talking about what they see ("the sky is pink and orange tonight") is a gentle, natural way to practise describing the world in English.

3. Visit a city art exhibition

Warsaw is full of galleries and museums waiting to be explored. Wander slowly, look closely, and let your child get curious about how other artists see the world. Playing "I see a…" in front of the artworks keeps little minds engaged — and keeps their English creative and sharp.

4. Learn a new hobby

Summer is the perfect time to finally try the thing you always wanted to but never had time for — sewing, pottery, calligraphy, knitting. Learning something new together teaches patience, focus, and the quiet pride of making something with your own hands.

5. Press flowers into art

Pick a few summer flowers on your next walk and press them between the pages of a heavy book. A week later, turn them into a card, a bookmark, or a framed letter. It's a slow, calming craft for hot afternoons — and a little piece of the season you can keep long after summer ends.

6. Paint a summer card

Encourage your child to paint summer the way they see it — a forest, a beach, a favourite moment — on a small card. A tiny painting holds a memory far longer than a photo buried on a phone. Tuck it into a notebook or send it to grandma; either way, it's a keepsake made with love.

Make it a summer to remember

You don't need a big trip or a packed schedule. A few brushes, a little curiosity, and some time together is enough to turn an ordinary summer into one your child will actually remember.

And if you'd like your child to spend the holidays creating, exploring, and speaking English in a small, friendly group, our English-speaking summer art workshops in Warsaw are open — come and make something special with us. 💛
