What to Do with Kids at the Weekend in Warsaw: 15 Tried-and-Tested Ideas

A weekend in Warsaw with children doesn't have to mean a shopping centre or another afternoon in front of a screen. The city is full of places where children genuinely learn something, move around a lot, or simply have a great time — and plenty of them are free.

We've gathered 15 tried-and-tested ideas, split into indoor ones, outdoor ones and ones that only work until the end of September. For each you'll find the address, prices and what to watch out for.

For a rainy day

1. Copernicus Science Centre

Hundreds of exhibits you have to touch, switch on or test for yourself. Children can spend a whole day here and still not see everything.

Tip: buy tickets online in advance — they're for a set time slot and sell out quickly at weekends. The Planetarium is closed for renovation until 11 October.

2. Neon Museum

Colourful glowing neon signs from old Warsaw, now in their new home in the Palace of Culture. For children it's simply the brightest room in the city; for adults it's a trip back in time.

Tip: it's in the same building as the viewing terrace, so it's easy to do both in one trip.

3. Palace of Culture and Science viewing terrace

A view over the whole city from the 30th floor. Children love spotting their neighbourhood, school or the National Stadium from above. It's open daily 10:00–20:00, and until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.

4. Royal Castle and the Old Town

With the one-złoty ticket, the Castle is one of the cheapest museums in Warsaw for families. There's a family version of the audio guide for ages 6–11 (10 zł).

Tip: afterwards, walk to the Old Town Market Square to see the Mermaid — it's only a few minutes away.

5. The Children's Room at the Warsaw Uprising Museum

A space for younger visitors where the story of the Uprising is told in a way suited to children. On Sundays it runs free sessions for ages 6–10, with limited places.

Tip: this is a difficult subject — choose it for an older child and be ready to talk about it.

Outdoors

6. Royal Łazienki

Peacocks, squirrels, the Palace on the Isle and plenty of paths for running around. The park is open daily, and on Fridays entry to the museum buildings is free.

7. Wilanów Palace and Park

A baroque palace, gardens and a lakeside park, open daily 9:00–19:00. A palace ticket (70 zł full, 35 zł reduced in season) includes entry to the park.

Tip: if you have a Thursday free, entry to the palace, gardens and park is free that day.

8. Warsaw Zoo

A classic that always works. In September the zoo is open 9:00–19:00 at weekends, and the ticket offices close an hour earlier.

Tip: these prices apply until the end of September — check the current price list in October.

9. Warsaw University Library Roof Garden

One of the loveliest roof gardens in Europe, with bridges, a stream and a view over the Vistula. Open 9:00–20:00 until the end of September, and 9:00–18:00 in October. There's a lift for buggies.

10. Królikarnia Sculpture Park

A hillside park with sculptures standing among the trees. Children treat it like a treasure hunt — who can find the next figure first. Open from dawn to dusk all year.

11. Pole Mokotowskie

📍 between Ochota, Mokotów and Śródmieście · 🎟️ free

One of Warsaw's biggest parks, with two playgrounds — including sensory ones — a pond with wooden boardwalks, and paths for bikes and scooters.

12. Kabaty Forest

📍 Ursynów · 🎟️ free · 🌐 eko.um.warszawa.pl

Warsaw's largest forest, with trails, nature paths and woodland playgrounds. The paths are smooth enough for a buggy. In Powsin there's a nature and forest education centre with activities for children.

Only until the end of September

13. Multimedia Fountain Park

A show of water, light and music below the Old Town. In September it runs on Fridays and Saturdays at 20:30 — this year with the show "Wielkie Serca". The season ends with September.

14. Water tram on the Vistula

A 1.5-hour river trip, Thursday to Sunday. The season only runs until 20 September, so this weekend is the last chance this year.

Tip: pair an afternoon trip with the evening fountain show — both are in the same place.

Getting creative

15. Art workshops at Art for Kids

Our Wilanów studio has two options for the weekend:

A workshop for the kids, a coffee for you. Drop off your child aged 5–8 for an hour and a half of making things, and head off for a quiet coffee or breakfast at one of the cafés in Wilanów. Your child comes back with their own piece of art, and you get a little time to yourselves. Sessions are led by experienced instructors, in a small group.

Family workshops. Two hours of making things together with your children: any technique and any theme, for your family or a group of friends. Painting, sculpture, collage or cardboard building — we prepare all the materials and clean up afterwards.

Tip: small groups fill up, so it's worth booking ahead. Get in touch to ask about dates.
