Themed Birthday Parties for Kids in Warsaw: 7 Themes Children Love
Art for Kids · Mon 19 October

A theme turns a birthday into an adventure. Your child looks forward to it for weeks, the guests know what to expect, and the photos turn out beautifully. At our studio in Wilanów we pair themed birthday parties with an art workshop: children don't just play in their favourite world, they build it with their own hands and go home with a finished piece.
Here are the 7 themes Warsaw parents ask us about most: who each one suits, what children can make, and how to match the decorations and invitations.
1. Frozen: an ice-kingdom party ❄️

Best for: ages 5–8, most often chosen for girls, though boys love snow castles too.
White, ice blue, silver and plenty of glitter. At the workshop children can build Elsa's ice castle from cardboard and decorate it with foil and fake snow, or make string-art snowflakes to hang at home. Add a pale blue cake, ice-coloured balloons and a "Let it go!" sign on the backdrop.

Game idea: freeze dance to the film's music: when the music stops, everyone turns into an ice statue.
2. Minecraft: a block-world party ⛏️

Best for: ages 7–12, one of today's most popular party themes for boys (and more and more girls).
Everything is square: a cake made of cubes, green and brown decorations, pixels. At the workshop children build their own world from cardboard blocks: a house, a mine or a portal, decorated with pixel patterns. For cake, game and decoration ideas, see our post on Minecraft birthday parties.
3. Unicorns: a rainbow party 🦄

Best for: ages 5–8, a classic choice for girls.
Pastels, rainbows, a golden horn and lots of flowers. It's one of our favourite workshops: beautiful unicorn masks that each child decorates their own way and then wears for the whole party.

4. Under the sea and mermaids 🐠

Best for: ages 5–9, girls and boys alike.
Turquoise, shells, fish, mermaids and octopuses. We run this theme a lot: children build an underwater castle from cardboard and modelling clay, with a reef, fish and treasure, or make a jellyfish that glows. See how our underwater castle party for Ariel fans went.

5. Castles and princesses 🏰

Best for: ages 5–10.
Towers, flags, drawbridges and crowns. At the workshop each child designs and builds their own cardboard castle, with towers, windows, a flag and a garden around it. Our free Enchanted Castle invitation fits this party perfectly, and children can make paper crowns to start the celebration.

6. Knights and dragons ⚔️

Best for: ages 6–10, great for children who love history and adventure.
Coats of arms, shields, cardboard swords and a medieval fortress. Children can design their own coat of arms and shield, or build a fortress from sticks and cardboard, with walls, a gate and a watchtower. To finish: a knighting ceremony.

7. Dinosaurs: for younger children 🦕

Best for: ages 5–7, the best theme for younger children.
Dinosaurs never get old. At the workshop children can model a clay dinosaur, make a papier-mâché dinosaur egg or create a prehistoric landscape with a volcano. Younger children need simple, short steps, so we choose a project every child can finish with pride. You'll find a matching dinosaur invitation among our free invitations.
How to choose a birthday theme for your child
- Ask your child. A favourite story, game or animal is the best starting point.
- Match the theme to the age. Dinosaurs and unicorns for ages 5–7, castles and the underwater world for 5–10, Minecraft and knights for older children.
- Think about the guests. A theme both girls and boys enjoy (under the sea, castles, dinosaurs) works best for a mixed group.
- Start with the invitation. When the invitation matches the theme, children know straight away what adventure they're heading for.
