Big Birthdays and School Workshops for 20+ Kids

Most art studios are built for eight children. Ours was too — and for a long time that meant saying no to the requests we most wanted to say yes to. A whole class coming in for a workshop. A birthday where the entire year group is invited. A preschool wanting to bring two groups on the same morning.

That has changed. For larger groups we now hold workshops at Sztukarnia, a much bigger room in Stary Mokotów, booked for the day and set up however the group needs it.

Sztukarnia — the room we use for bigger groups

al. Niepodległości 80, 02-626 Warszawa — entrance from ul. Odyńca, in Stary Mokotów, about 200 m from Metro Racławicka.

It's 113 m² of bright, open room: tall windows down one side, plenty of daylight, and enough floor space that thirty children working at once still feels calm rather than crowded.

Room for a whole class — and then some

• Up to 40 children seated at tables
• Up to 60 people in selected layouts
• 6 large tables (200 × 90 cm), plus 3 more when you need them
• 40 chairs, plus 20 extra

In practice: from about 20 children upwards, this is the room. A class of 25 fits comfortably. Two preschool groups fit. A birthday with 30 guests fits, with room left for the parents who stay.

Any theme you can think of

We don't work from a fixed menu. Tell us the theme — knights and castles, space, the ocean floor, an artist the class is studying, a colour, a book they've just finished — and we build the whole workshop around it: the project, the materials, the way the room is set up.

That applies to themed birthday parties, themed workshops for schools and preschools, end-of-year celebrations, class trips and school events. If you have an idea, we can almost certainly build a workshop around it. If you don't, tell us the age of the children and we'll suggest a few.

What's in the room

For the making

• A proper working sink — the thing that makes real paint, clay and honest mess possible
• Large windows and a lot of natural light
• A relaxation zone, for the child who needs a quiet five minutes

The quiet corner of the room — somewhere to sit out five minutes, and where accompanying parents and teachers usually end up.

For presentations and grown-ups

• Wi-Fi, projector, screen and speaker
• Coffee machine, kettle and a water dispenser

The projector is more useful than it sounds for school groups — we can show the artist, the building or the creature the class is about to make before a single brush comes out.

Before you book — the practical bits

Getting there. About 200 m from Metro Racławicka, so a class can travel by metro without a coach. The entrance is from ul. Odyńca rather than the main avenue, which is worth telling parents in advance.

Two things to plan around. The space is on the first floor and reached by stairs — there is no lift, so it isn't suitable for a wheelchair user or for an adult with a pram, and we would much rather tell you now than on the day. There's also one toilet in the space, so with a group of thirty it's worth building a few extra minutes into the timetable.
