Frozen Birthday Party Ideas: Decorations, Games, Cake + a Studio Workshop

Elsa, Anna and Olaf have topped birthday wish lists for girls aged 4–8 for years. In winter the theme fits even better: snow outside, an ice palace inside. If your child's birthday falls in January or February, December is a good time to start planning.

Below are ideas for invitations, decorations, cake, games and art projects you can do at home. At the end we describe what a Frozen-style party looks like at our studio – including a version for boys.

Invitations

Our free invitation maker has a Winter Princess design. Type in your child's name, the date, time and place, then print the invitation at home or send it on WhatsApp. For a mixed group, the Enchanted Castle design works well too.

Decorations: white, blue and silver

  • Paper snowflakes. Fold a white paper circle a few times and snip into it with scissors. Every snowflake comes out different, and the children can make them during the party.
  • Cotton-wool snow. Spread it over the table and windowsills and add a few pine cones or small Christmas trees.
  • Icicles. Strips of silver or clear foil hung from a lamp or over a doorway.
  • Balloons in white, blue and silver. A few white balloons with Olaf's face drawn on them are enough for everyone to know what's going on.
  • Fairy lights. A string of cool white lights does more than all the other decorations put together. Turn off the big light and the room looks like an ice palace.

Cake and food

  • An ice-coloured cake: white or pale blue icing with snowflakes made from icing or white chocolate. Silver sprinkles instead of character candles look elegant and are easy.
  • "Snowballs": meringues, coconut balls or marshmallows.
  • "Icicles": breadsticks dipped in white chocolate.
  • "Ice water": water with a few drops of blue syrup and star-shaped ice cubes.
  • Olaf's nose: carrot sticks – yes, children eat them more happily when they have a name.

Frozen birthday party games

  1. Elsa freezes. Play music and let the children dance. When the music stops, everyone turns into an ice statue. Anyone who moves "melts" and helps the leader.
  2. Snowball fight. Balls of scrunched-up white paper or soft pom-poms. Two teams, one minute: whoever throws more onto the other side wins.
  3. Dress up Olaf. Each team gets toilet rolls and wraps one person up like a snowman. A paper carrot nose to finish.
  4. Snowflake hunt. Hide paper snowflakes around the room. Whoever finds the most wins – then string them together into a garland.

Art project: build an ice palace

The best project for a Frozen party is Elsa's castle. Children love going home with something big they can put on a shelf.

At the studio we build it like this:

  • Towers and walls from cardboard, painted white and blue.
  • Snowflakes, glitter and crystals on the walls and roofs.
  • Cotton-wool snow around the castle, little trees and an icy path.
  • An LED light inside, so the windows really glow.
  • The children can draw their favourite characters in the windows.

We prepare the whole base before the party, so even five-year-olds build their castle easily and get to do the best part: painting and decorating.

And for boys? A knights' castle

Birthday groups are often mixed, and not every boy wants an ice palace. So instead we offer a knights' castle: the boys design and decorate it themselves – towers, defensive walls, a gate, flags with a coat of arms and knight figures.

Both projects follow the same steps, so the girls build an ice palace, the boys a fortress, and everyone sits at one table. Any child can also pick whichever castle suits them better.

For an extra fee we can add Frozen-style face painting: snowflakes, blue swirls and a touch of silver glitter. The children finish the party like real ice princesses, and the photos at the end are the best of the day. For boys it can be a knight's coat of arms or winter patterns.
